Between the heat, t-ball, and pool days, summer has officially began in the McGee book.  I was forewarned, when I took on coaching 8 four-year old kids, that it was like herding cats, and that was an understatement.  Nevertheless, it’s been a lot of fun and a great test of my patience and energy.  Like I said this family is in full summer swing and I’m loving every minute of it.  This picture should give you a little taste of what it’s been like.  Until next time!

I’ll try and catch you up to speed about what’s ahead.  For starters, Cassie and I made the decision last fall that this spring would be a great time to get married!  With that being said, I wouldn’t wish the planning process on my worst enemy.  The End.  I better not say anything else on that topic, in fear of getting myself into trouble.  Although, I know it will all be worth it once the big day arrives.  We’re very excited, and continue to be amazed by how many blessings God continues to pour into our lives.  We can’t begin to thank Him enough for the people he has put into our lives who daily pray for us and offer their love and encouragement.

Brody has been growing faster than any of us could imagine, and when people tell you that time flies, believe them!  It’s hard to believe that in a little over 2 months he’ll be turning four.  I’ll try and keep you up to speed on all that happens and has happened with him, since the blog was set up more or less for him.

Speaking of being blessed as I’ve ventured out into the blogosphere I stumbled upon a blog called Bowens Heart.  The band Sanctus Real’s lead singer Matthew Hammitt and his wife write about their life since they found out their son Bowen was born with a heart defect.  Since day 1 they have opened up about the struggle, pain and joy they have experienced throughout their ordeal with their son Bowen.  What struck me the most about their blog was their constant and steadfast faith in God through almost losing Bowen, multiple surgeries, and extended hospital stays.  This blog has not only made me realize how blessed we truly are but how deep God’s love can be.  I’m continually inspired by each post they make and continue to pray for their family as Bowen enters his second surgery on the 2nd of March.  I highly encourage anyone who reads this to venture over there and take a look, and to also keep them in your thoughts and prayers as Bowen prepares for another surgery.

A lot has happened since the last time I made a significant post on here.  Brody has made his way into a classroom, albeit only twice a week, but nonetheless seeing him hold his lunchbox and carry a backpack has been bittersweet.  He’s learned how to swim without the assistance of floaties, attended a Razorback game, gone pig chasing, eaten a corndog at the fair, and done numerous other activities that may seem small but have created memories that I couldn’t fit into a thousand page book.

So this will be my attempt to get back into “blogging” more, but to also use this as a journal of sorts and to create a memory of my own.  Memories can simply be a photo taken at the perfect moment, a trip made with the people you care about, something that makes you laugh and they can be short, funny, sad, and life-changing.  The sad thing is, memories are often forgotten about, and this blog allows me to remember things that made life simple and like nothing else mattered at the time they were made.

Most recently the fam got to check out the Razorbacks in action at Dickey Stephens in downtown NLR last week. While I loved seeing the Hogs play here locally, the crowd was both amazing and a hassle. I’ve never seen a place so packed out than DSP last Tuesday night. They made it interesting, but in the end pulled out a W!

The funniest part of the day and night was Brody’s constant talk about meeting Pork Chop and Boss Hog. Somehow between the Auburn football game last fall and last Tuesday they went from enemies to best friends. I wasnt going to hear the end of it if we didn’t give Pork Chop a high-five that night. Well not only did we do that but we gave him a couple more as the evening progressed. After seeing what a good time he had that night, fighting the crowd became not such a big problem. All joking aside I’ve actually really enjoyed getting to spend some “guy time” with Brody.  It’s hilarious how much fun he can be now that he can put actual words into sentences, play some ball, and really interact with you.  We caught his uncle’s baseball game at Dickey Stephens, got some good grub at Rocky’s Pub (unbelievable Philly Cheesesteak), watched some March Madness, broke in the new trampoline, and just kind of hung out.  Now only if this weather would go back to those 70′s and sunny then it would be perfect.

The highlight of the day came when I decided we take a trip around the yard in my Tahoe and he apparently turned the car into a Spaceship and I was the Captain.  He was in high cotton riding around at the speed of li…well a snail I guess, and cracked me up when he told me to, “Park this thing captain.”  I know stuff like this doesn’t really sound like much right now, but 20 years later I’m sure I’ll be wishing that I had that two year old sitting in the passenger seat, taking a ride in the ‘ship.’

All that being said we can’t wait, I really can’t wait, for mom to feel better.  Life’s meant to be for the Three of Us…Is that a song?
